Sylvia Joanne Bronson, 87, of Eureka, MT passed away Sunday, November 5, 2023, at Mountain View Manor of natural causes. She was born November 24, 1935, in Great Falls, MT to John E. and Mollie J. (Flaget) Gibson. Sylvia grew up in Cut Bank and Eureka and attended school in Eureka. She graduated from Lincoln County High School in 1953. She married Charles Bronson in 1953 and together they had 2 sons. After being separated for a time, they remarried in 1976 and enjoyed life together until his passing. She was married to Robert Shenefelt from 1958 into the mid 1970’s and they had 2 sons while living in the Seattle area.
Sylvia was a very loving and sweet lady and was very generous with her hugs. She could be seen many times walking the streets of Eureka with her sister, Marjorie. They got their daily exercise by walking all over town. Sylvia loved doing yard work. She enjoyed the sunshine and planted and weeded her flower gardens every summer. She was also a very good cook. She and Marge made wonderful Norwegian treats for Christmas and holidays. She was well known in the family for her lefse. Sylvia loved her children and grandchildren and never missed a birthday or Christmas until her illness took over and she could no longer remember faces or names. Sylvia spent her final days at Mountain View Manor and was lovingly cared for there by all of the staff.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mollie Gibson; brothers, Edwin and George Gibson; and husband, Charles E. Bronson. Survivors include her sister, Marjorie Rooney of Eureka; brother, Donald (Virginia) Gibson of Eureka; children Darrel W Shenefelt (Roni) of Kalispell, Dale E Shenefelt of Kalispell, Robert Shenefelt (Tammy) of Seattle, WA, Steven D Shenefelt (Kelly) of Kalispell; aunt, Mary Leonard of Potlatch, ID; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Services for Sylvia will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 11, 2023, at the Eureka First Church of God. Interment will be at the Tobacco Valley Cemetery. There will be a visitation from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon at First Church of God. Arrangements are under the care of Schnackenberg Funeral Home of Eureka.
