Richard "Dick" Olsen Obituary

Richard (Dick) Olsen, 80, passed away to his beloved Lord and Savior in heaven, on Aug 10, 2024, at his home in Troy, Montana. Richard was born as a twin, with brother Robert, on Feb 02, 1944, to Harry and Eleanor Olsen in Litchfield, MN.

Dick was raised and graduated high school in Columbia Heights, MN. Then he served in the Navy for two years on the USS Yorktown CVS-10, where he excelled as the ship's photographer, including professionally capturing visiting Hollywood performers. He also enjoyed being a clarinet player in the Navy band as he had in high school. After the Navy, he returned to MN where he worked briefly as an auto mechanic at Sears. Next, he enjoyed working again as a professional photographer until entering his long plumbing career in MN. He succeeded greatly at that for 34 years until retirement. He always had multiple projects going, whether for himself or his love of helping others. Dick's plumbing, mechanics, fixing and building things, and welding talents, from general to creative, excelled and surpassed amazement. After retiring in 2004, he and his wife, Janya, moved to the beautiful mountains of Montana. Sadly in 2007, he was diagnosed with a life-altering brain injury that drastically and progressively hindered his mind and mobility until his passing. But not even extreme disabilities slowed his tremendous tenacity and enjoyment to work incredibly hard, as he had from early childhood.

Dick loved the Lord above all, then family. He especially enjoyed time with his brothers David, Robert and Mark. He deeply treasured his time with his children; Wendy, Daniel, Dennis, and Sarah; and with his stepchildren and grandchildren. He enjoyed the mountains, hunting, boating, fishing, photography, raising cattle, riding horses, hard work and fixing things.

Dick is preceded in death by his parents Harry and Eleanor Olsen; and sister-in-law Louise Olsen (David's wife). He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Janya Olsen; brothers David Olsen, Robert Olsen (Katie), and Mark Olsen (Dianne); children Wendy Real, Daniel Olsen (Debbie), Dennis Olsen (Christine), and Sarah Meyer (Chad); stepchildren Levi King, Adam King, Justin King, Janya Comer, and Kindra Turnbull; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
There will be no services. Dick wished to be remembered for his love for the Lord, hard work, talents and treasured memories. Arrangements are under the care of Schnackenberg Funeral Home of Libby, MT
