Raymond Conrad Witt
October 6, 1950 – April 28, 2025
Raymond Conrad Witt passed away peacefully on the evening of Monday, April 28, 2025. He was 74 years old. Ray was born on October 6, 1950, in Butte, Montana, to Reuben Theodore Witt and Clara Rosie (Messmer) Witt. After his parents divorced, his father later remarried Evelyn Witt.
Ray is now reunited in Heaven with his mother, father, stepmother, a brother, and two sisters. He leaves behind his beloved younger brother, Steve Witt.
Ray’s early years were marked by hardship. At the age of five, he was separated from his family, and many years passed before he and Steve reconnected. About forty years later, their bond was rekindled through heartfelt letters and visits to Libby, Montana. Eventually, Ray made the decision to move to Libby to be closer to his brother, and the two even lived in the same group home. Their relationship, like most between brothers, had its disagreements, but their love and loyalty to each other were deep and unmistakable.
Ray was a friend to all. He greeted everyone with a warm smile and a firm handshake. If you were lucky enough to receive one of his legendary hugs, you knew how much love he had to give—it would melt your heart.
Ray had many joys in life. He loved trains, smoking cigars, and blowing smoke rings. He had a soft spot for old cars, Johnny Cash, The Lone Ranger, Scooby-Doo, and good westerns. He was proud of his famous hotcakes and never turned down a burger and fries. His spirit was joyful and kind, his faith was strong, and his presence brought comfort and light to those around him.
A celebration of Ray’s life will be held on Friday, May 9th at 2:00 PM at Libby Christian Church. All who were fortunate enough to know this remarkable man are invited to join us in honoring his memory. Arrangements are under the care of Schnackenberg Funeral Home of Libby, MT.
