Ronald James “Hoss” Charlton, 74, went to be with our Lord and Savior on May 30, 2020 after an extended illness. He was born in Salem, Ohio on March 27, 1946 to Wilbur and Mary (Coleman) Charlton. He graduated from Greenford High School in 1964. He lived in Greenford all of his growing up years. He married his high school sweetheart Suzanne (Olin) Charlton on June 25, 1966.
In 1968 they had a son Matthew James Charlton. Ron had a small farm in Greenford where he raised beef cattle, pigs and turkey. He farmed with his cousin Richard Charlton. He enjoyed making maple syrup with Ross Bartholow on the farm. Ron worked at Bliss Salem in Salem, Ohio as a welder for 31 years. He was always willing to help friends and neighbors with their welding projects. He was a Green Township volunteer fireman for 15 years. Ron served as deacon and elder at Greenford Christian Church. Ron and his family had a camp in Pennsylvania called Snitzelbuck where they lived several years after moving from the farm. He enjoyed hunting deer, turkey and squirrel there. In 2000 Ron and Sue moved to Trego, Montana and built their own home with the help of his family. It was a lifelong dream to live in the Rocky Mountains. They followed their son and daughter-in-law there. He loved hunting and fishing in Montana. He was involved with Cowboy Action shooting. Ron and Sue enjoyed singing together at home, church and in the First Baptist Church choir in Eureka. He was a ham radio operator reaching the class of extra. The highlight was talking to Astronaut Doug Wheelock on the International Space Station. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents and older brother William Charlton.
He is survived by his wife Suzanne, son Matthew and daughter-in-law Cheryl of Trego, Montana, brother Robert Charlton of Salem, Ohio and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 19th, 2020 at the First Baptist Church in Eureka, MT. Arrangements are by Schnackenberg Funeral Home in Eureka. Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.schnackenbergfh.com.
