Kenni Ann Schauer, 78, passed away peacefully at her home in Libby on Tuesday, March 1, 2022. Kenni Ann was born July 23, 1943, and passed away after a long battle with esophageal cancer.
Kenni Ann was born in Marianna, Florida, to Kenneth and Alice Trow, and was their only child. She married Arthur (Rocky) Schauer on November 22, 1961. Their first daughter, Anna (Marcus Craig), was born in 1963, followed by little sister, Alice (Gary Luehr), in 1964, and lastly by their son Kenneth (Shiloh) in 1975. Mom is survived by her husband of 60 years, Rocky, their three children, seven grandchildren (Cassie (Diego), Caitie (Max), Brian (Brianna), Anne Marie (Camron), Lydia, Dawson and Ellis) and one great granddaughter (Eva).
Kenni’s father was in the Air Force and she lived in many different places. She had very fond memories of Fairbanks, Alaska, and often talked about her adventures there. The family settled in Vaughn, Montana, and Kenni graduated from Simms High School – where she met Rocky. Kenni graduated from Eastern Montana School with a degree in Education. Rocky, Kenni Ann and their two girls moved to Libby, Montana, in 1969. Both she and Rocky taught in the Libby School system for many years and each retired after full and satisfying careers. She taught second grade, fifth grade, sixth grade, and seventh grade math and English. In the late 1970’s Kenni and Rocky were instrumental in recruiting Gonzaga University to provide remote learning so that many Libby teachers could receive their master’s degrees in education. Upon retiring she continued to teach for several years for the University of Phoenix online program.
Kenni loved animals and is responsible for finding the furrever homes for many fur-faced friends. There are not many friends or family members who have not provided loving homes for Kenni’s rescues. We often talked about the number of animals that would be there to greet her when she returned to her heavenly home. She was active in many clubs and charities and during the last three and a half years, when cancer weakened her body, she kept active by crocheting lapgans, fingerless gloves and hats. She donated over 100 lapgans to those who would benefit from their warmth. She also took great joy in creating one-of-a-kind cards to send to family and friends.
Thank you to all friends and family members who have reached out to Rocky, Anna, Alice and Ken during this difficult time. Thank you to Logan Health Hospice (Diana, Dana, and Nancy) who helped keep Kenni comfortable during her last week of life. Thank you to Pastor Steven Thomas (St. John Lutheran Church) whose frequent visits over the years when Kenni Ann was homebound and whose daily visits and scripture readings during her last week gave comfort to Kenni and her family. A warm thank you also to Neil and Betty Textor, who through Betty’s generous work with the Stephen Ministry at St. John Lutheran Church, visited Rocky and Kenni Ann weekly for more than two years. Finally, we cannot begin to count the loving gifts and visits from friends and family who gave their support throughout Kenni’s illness — and we extend our whole-hearted thanks to them as well.
Kenni Ann, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend will be greatly missed. Her memorial service will be June 18 th to allow safe travels for those who wish to attend. Services will be at St. John Lutheran Church followed by a celebration of Kenni’s life at the family ranch.
