John Everett Hyslop, 57, of Libby, Montana, passed away on January 8, 2026, in Libby.
John was born on December 30, 1968, in Fayetteville, North Carolina, to Judy Hyslop. In his early years, John and his mother moved frequently before settling in New Jersey in 1978. He graduated from high school in 1986 and spent the next 26 years in New Jersey. Drawn by the beauty of Montana and a desire to be closer to his mother, John moved to Libby in 2012.
John married Karen Carson on June 13, 2019. Together they shared a loving family that included their children and two devoted dogs, Bear and Grey. John was a proud father to Sierra Hyslop and stepfather to Mykayla McLaury and Mitchell Woodworth.
In September 2013, John was appointed as a full-time Deputy with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office. One of his greatest achievements was becoming the handler and best friend of Bear, the Narcotics K-9. John later took on a new leadership role when he was appointed Undersheriff in November 2024, a position he served with dedication and pride.
John was an avid podcast listener and passionate dog trainer. He spent much of his free time training Bear, working on home projects to improve his dream property, and enjoying time with his wife. He loved teaching others, sharing his knowledge, and was always eager to learn more himself.
John is survived by his mother, Judy Hyslop; his wife, Karen Hyslop; his loyal dogs, Bear and Grey; his daughter, Sierra Hyslop; his step-daughter, Mykayla McLaury (Drew); his step-son, Mitchell Woodworth (Corey Willis); and his grandchildren: Lanie Willis, Zoey Willis, Thaddeus Willis, Evalynn Woodworth, Theodore Willis, Connor Woodworth, and James McLaury.
