James Mohawk
James Lloyd Mohawk, 82, of Libby, Montana, died Dec. 14, 2023.
Jim was born April 23, 1941, in Alexandria, Minnesota, the fourth child of Lewis and Alyce
Mohawk. He was raised in Alexandria and Longville, Minnesota. After graduating from high
school and before entering the U.S. Navy, Jim met LuEllen Metcalf. Jim and Lu were married in
1961. The couple raised three children, moving from Minnesota to Libby in 1977. He was an
electrician who operated his own business in Libby for many years.
Jim was an avid fisherman and sportsman who loved to share his love for the outdoors – and
fishing especially – with his children and grandchildren. He was a notorious prankster who
loved to tell a good joke, and some bad ones too, and he passed along his wit to some of the
subjects of those jokes. Jim wrote love messages in the snow to his wife and mailed Christmas
trees across the country to his kids and grandchildren.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Arlita, Ronald, Lewis and Wilfred. He is
survived by his sister Janette; his wife; children Tamara (David) Robinson, Derek Mohawk and
Laura (Kenneth) McCrohan; and grandchildren Nathan, Joshua, Lauren, Jacob, Molly and
Bradley.
Jim’s family is planning a private remembrance at a later date. The family thanks the
ambulance, emergency and hospital staff for their exceptional care for Jim in his last days.
Arrangements are under the care of Schnackenberg Funeral Home of Libby, MT. Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.schnackenbergfh.com.
