James “Jim” Ivankovig passed away unexpectedly at his home in Libby, Montana, on Saturday, December 9, 2023.
Jim was born on August 4, 1952, in South Bend, Indiana. He attended St. Patrick’s Catholic School in Walkerton and Greene Township School. After Jim graduated from North Liberty High School in 1970, he met Anita Metzger of Sidney, Indiana, while she was attending Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. Jim and Anita were married for 49 years.
Jim was predeceased by his parents Kay (Kubiak) and Paul Ivankovig of North Liberty, Indiana. He is survived by his wife Anita and children, Jennifer from Chicago, Illinois, and Jacob (Jannie) from LaPorte, Indiana, with two grandchildren, Robert James and Porter Ivankovig, and one sister, Janice (Tom) Curtis of Walkerton, Indiana.
Jim and Anita spent many happy years raising their two children on a farm in LaPorte, Indiana. Jim also had worked construction for Portage Realty, South Bend, and drove a medical gas semi-truck for BOC Gas in Laporte, Indiana.
Jim loved his life in beautiful Montana. They enjoyed riding their Gold Wing by the Kootenai River, and hiking through the mountains with his children and grandchildren when they came to visit. Jim liked to share a good IPA with his sister at Michigan breweries when he was in town and rehash the Notre Dame Football games over the phone. He was so talented in construction, remodeling all his homes, barns, and even a silo. There was always a project he was working on.
Jim was so proud of Jake and Jenny and all they accomplished in life. He could also boast of some very close friendships including ones that lasted from high school (Cloid and others). He was a good man in every sense of the “word”.
A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
