Herbert Hoover Cole (Bert), 95, passed away Monday, December 11, 2023 at the Libby Care Center. He was born November 1, 1928, to Henry and Vessie Cole at their home on Iron Creek near Troy, Montana.
Bert grew up there and attended school in Troy. He worked in the woods with his father until going to work for J. Neils Lumber Co. and eventually Champion. He worked in the woods, mostly driving log trucks, until Champion International closed. He then purchased his own trucks and hauled logs, and over the road, until retirement.
Bert served in the United States Army in Germany after the war. There he met his future wife, Karoline Bischoff. After his discharge, Bert, Karoline and daughter, Carmen returned to Troy to live. The family soon grew with the birth of their son, Kurt. They lived on their place on Iron Creek at the time of his death.
Bert was preceded in death by his parents and all his siblings.
Survivors include his wife Karoline; son Kurt Cole; daughter Carmen Erickson (George); grandchildren Angie Schmidt (Wayne), Justin Erickson, Amanda Cole, Natasha Forsythe (Greg), Jacob Cole (Britney); several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews and their families. Services will be scheduled at a later date. Arrangements are under the care of Schnackenberg Funeral Home of Libby. Online condolences and memories may be shared by visiting www.schnackenbergfh.com.
