Elaine A Gordon Went Home to Heaven
On September 11, 2024, arguably the world’s most giving person, Elaine Adair (Giroux)
Gordon went to be with the Lord. Her ginormous heart finally said to the rest of her body “We’re
done here boys” and moved on to the next chapter.
Elaine, the eldest daughter of Patricia and Victor Giroux, was born in Wallace, ID on April 5, 1950.
She and her 5 siblings (3 brothers, 2 sisters) lived in Wallace until the 5th grade when the family
moved to Mullan where she graduated high school in 1968. Shortly after high school, she
moved to Moscow, ID where she took a semester of classes at U of I. Her small-town heart
yearned for more glitz and glam so she moved to Las Vegas in 1969 where she took on work
with the Central Telephone Company. It was here she crossed paths with her soon to be
husband.
53 years ago, Elaine met Michael A. Gordon Sr. in Las Vegas, and they were married after a
whirlwind courtship on January 1, 1972. For the next 9 years they spent time in several states,
HI, NY, VA, PA, FL, GA, AK & CA all the while giving birth to 4 children. Early in 1981, they
loaded up two of the biggest UHauls made and with the help of her youngest brother, they made
the LONG trek from Ketchikan AK to their forever home in Eureka, MT.
Once settled, she immediately infused her love and caring for other people into this small town.
Her first job in Eureka was as a para educator with Eureka Elementary. She loved helping
children plus the hours were perfect; she wanted to be home with her own children after school
let out. During the summers she led the Summer Rec program. There were many days spent
at Sophie Lake where she also taught children how to swim and hours spent soaking up the sun
after a good lathering of baby oil! When her youngest child was a bit older, she went to work
for the only dentist in Eureka, Dr. French. This again was a labor of love, she wanted her
children to have the best dental care available to man. All 4 of her children were born with extra
large smiles and she would do anything to make sure they lasted a lifetime. Elaine led by
example and always shared her smile and words of encouragement with anyone she
encountered. Her unwavering Catholic faith gave her the amazing belief that this life here on
earth should be about loving and caring for each other regardless of the circumstance. It always
seemed her mission to try to get a smile or better yet, a laugh from you. She left a fabulous
mark on everyone she met. Trying to make light of everything was as natural for her as walking
and talking. For 53 years Elaine never wavered in her love and care for her husband and
children. Never taking a day off, she was our rock, our glue, our glowing light in darkness
whenever we needed.
Elaine held various jobs and roles around town including but not limited to – Christmas tree
bailer, Christmas wreath designer and maker, summer rec administrator, swim teacher,
substitute teacher, CCD teacher, dental hygienist, postal clerk (Retired) and of course – smile
maker.
Elaine is so sadly missed and is survived by her husband Mike Gordon, as well as children –
Mike Gordon Jr, Nichole Hansen, Nathan Gordon and Toby Gordon. Her brothers – Vic, Dave
and Art Giroux and sister Loretta Bubb. As well as 6 grandkids – Elaina Hansen, Mchi Gordon,
Gage Gordon, Zeik Gordon, Shyla Gordon and Remi Orrelle. 6 great grandkids – Mack Gordon,
Casey Gordon Grinstead, Oakland Innis, Miles Orrelle and two more on the way, Wren Orrelle
and undecided name. Elaine was preceded in death by her parents Pat and Vic Giroux and her
sisters Susie, Mary and Alice Giroux.
