Edith Hudson Obituary

Edith E. Hudson, 93, of Eureka, died Friday, May 22, 2026, at Logan Health in Kalispell, of natural causes with family by her side and made her way home to the arms of Jesus.  She left us on hummingbird wings.
Edie was born in Eureka, February 28, 1933, to David Wallace Butts and Adeline Doble, youngest of their five children.  At nine days old, her mother died and Edie was raised by a paternal aunt, Bessie Butts.  Her father would later remarry and she gained five more siblings.  She attended the one-room Tooley Lake School and graduated from LCHS in 1952.  Soon after, Edie married her high school sweetheart Dale Hudson and they moved to Amarillo, Texas, where he was stationed with the Air Force.  Their daughter Esther was born there in 1953.  After Dale’s discharge in 1954 they returned to Montana and lived on the West Kootenai for a time then settled in Eureka.  Son Howard joined the family in 1964.  Edie loved being a wife, mother and homemaker, but as they went into their own businesses, she became the bookkeeper for their freight, heavy hauling and log trucking.  She helped with the volunteer process of building Holy Cross Lutheran Church, being active there from the 1950’s throughout her life, spending some years teaching Sunday school and many years with the quilters group until her vision slowed her.
Edie kept busy with her hobbies:  sewing, embroidery, crochet, quilting (many for her family), gardening (especially her flowers) and mowing with her John Deere even a few weeks before her death.  She loved owls, “her” deer, hummingbirds and watching squirrels on the feeder.  She enjoyed many years of fishing, camping and playing cards with family and good friends.  Pies and cinnamon rolls were her specialty and it seems she could turn out a meal on short notice from almost nothing.  Her favorite job was doting on her family, especially her grandchildren and great grands.  She loved to see and feed them, and no visit was complete without hugs, kisses and a wave from the window.  There was friendly competition to see who was last to sit on her lap.
Edie was preceded in death by her husband Dale of 71 years; her parents and foster family; her siblings David Butts, Elsie Shaft, Eldin Butts, Dick Butts, and Neva Duff; nephews Denny Butts, Steve Butts, and Alan Hudson; and niece Chalena Duff.
Edie is survived by daughter Esther Brandt(Dave) of Eureka; son Howard Hudson of Kalispell; grandchildren Paul Brandt of Eureka, Keith Brandt (Emma)of Missoula, and Joan Kerr(Tony) of Commerce City, CO; great grandchildren Kate Sieler(Jed) and Camille Brandt; bonus siblings Chloe and Caden Edmonston; Mariah Sartori and bonus siblings Alden, Kashis, Austin, and Cole; Kyler Kerr(Emily), Langley and Lyric Kerr; her siblings Elden Marvel(Donna), Cheri Butts(Dan), Ella Evinrude, and Ned Butts; many nieces and nephews; and very special friends.
