Dolores Reynolds Obituary

Dolores (Chick) McCully Reynolds
March 11, 1936 – October 6, 2024
Long time resident Dolores Reynolds was born to George and June McCully on March 11, 1936 and passed away on October 6, 2024. Her family homesteaded in the Sinclair Creek area near Eureka, where she was born. Her family logged and operated small sawmills in the Trego and Fortine areas.

Dolores attended school in Fortine and at the Glen Lake School House, and graduated from Lincoln County High School in 1954. She, and her two brothers, was raised on the family ranch along what is now West Road.

Upon graduation, Dolores went to Glendale, California to visit her Aunt Bertie and began a job there at the Cinch Cake Factory where she worked for four years. It was there that she met and married Dick Johnston and had a son, Mark.

She missed her family and friends and returned to Eureka. Dolores worked in the office at Lincoln Electric for several years in the early 1960s. She then married Kurt Roose and had three daughters, April, Melissa and Tara. Kurt passed away in 1986. Dolores also worked at Montana Market and Bebo’s Furniture store for a time. Later, Dolores married her dear longtime friend Jim Reynolds. She worked for several years at the Flathead Valley Chemical Dependency Center, which was dear to her heart.

Dolores lived the last few years of her life at the Mountain View Manor and was very fond of her caregivers and fellow friends there. Apparently, she enjoyed her stay there because she was always asking her children if she could buy the place.

Over the years, some of her favorite things to do were going huckleberry picking, mushroom hunting, gathering unique rocks, and searching for driftwood along Lake Koocanusa. She absolutely appreciated the incredible beauty of this area. She loved animals her entire life and was never without a pet. Dolores was instrumental in starting Alcoholics Anonymous in Eureka. She was passionate about recovery and sponsored several people. She was a voracious reader and movie watcher, and had an extensive library of each. She owned and operated The Good Stuff consignment store for many years. This contributed to her obsession with going to garage sales. She enjoyed a little gambling as well. Dolores was a long-time member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church and sang in the choir there. Her faith was central to who she was. She was a “health nut” and was forever learning about natural forms of healing. She wasn’t shy about sharing her recent discoveries on this subject.

Dolores is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Keith and Jerry McCully, step father Laird Byers, step brother Larry Byers, her husband Jim Reynolds, and her daughter April Roose.
She is survived by her children Mark Johnston (Tana), Melissa Knutson (Eric), Tara Collins and grandchildren Cody, Beau, Cale, Hannah, Evan, and Isaac, great grandchildren Bailey and Mason, her step children John Reynolds (Pam), Joe Reynolds, Sam Reynolds, Suzanne Anderson (Clark) and many bonus grandchildren and great grandchildren, and her step sister Naomi (Byers) Rogers.

Her funeral mass will be Saturday, October 12th at 10 a.m. (Rosary from 9:30 – 10:00) at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, in Eureka, MT. Interment will follow the service at the Tobacco Valley Cemetery, Eureka, MT. There will be a reception back at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church.
