Darrell Orr Obituary

Darrell Wayne Orr, of Libby, passed away surrounded by family late on May 3, 2026 at Cabinet Peaks Medical Center. He was 87 years old.

Darrell was born April 14, 1939, in Bassett, Nebraska, to Harold and Ollie Orr. The family later welcomed Darrell’s younger brother Eldon before moving to Cusick, Washington.

Darrell graduated from Cuscick High School in 1958. It was there he met his future wife, Carlene Street. The year of his graduation, he enlisted in the US Army, serving until 1965.

He married Carlene in Cusick on May 20, 1961. They had three children: Troy in 1962, Todd in 1965, and Tamara in 1968.

After leaving the Army, Darrell attended North Idaho College, graduating in 1970, and went to work for the United States Forest Service in Priest Lake, Idaho as trail crew and pack string leader. He later moved his family to Libby, Montana when he began work scaling logs and cruising timber for sales, before retiring in 1994. To keep busy, he took a job as a delivery driver for FedEx. His final job was at a local gun counter.

An avid hunter, Darrell was a life member of the North American Hunting Club, a member of the Mule Deer Foundation, a member recruiter for the NRA, a committee member of the Kootenai Valley Friends of NRA, and was instrumental in founding Shoot For Pink.

Darrell and Carlene carried on Harold’s love of Arabian horses, raising and showing them for over 40 years.

Darrell is survived by his wife and children; as well as his grandchildren Ken, Kelly, Cory, Clancy and Colton; and his great granddaughter Mia. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother; and his granddaughter Crystal Rose.

Darrell liked to collect old firearm cartridges and was always ready with a story or practical joke. In quiet moments, he would recite “The Cremation of Sam McGee” by Robert W. Service.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 15, 2026, 11:00 a.m., at the Libby Christian Church; 100 Kootenai River Road; Libby, Montana.
