Dean Leckrone, what an amazing guy!

I, Cheryl, got to know Dean (the UPS guy) when I worked at the high school. He was always entertaining and fun to be around.

After retirement, Ron and I got to know Dean from the MAC. He was a regular there, and he would entertain everyone. He could and would chat about everything and anything to everyone and anyone. No one was a stranger to Dean. We teased him about how fit his jaw muscles were. Whatever the topic, stories about Dean's grandkids were his favorite.

It's impossible to get over the passing of such a great guy. We grieve and sympathize with family members. We are still reeling over his death and can't imagine what family members are going through at this time. May the peace which comes from memories of love shared, comfort you now and in the days ahead.

We've gone south for the winter - so sorry we'll miss Dean's memorial. Please know that our thoughts and prayers go with you now and forever.

Sending hugs your way.

We want to extend our most heartfelt condolences to your family. We have lived next door to Dean since 2009, and enjoyed getting to know him over the past several years. He was a great neighbor, and always a friendly guy. He put up with our rambunctious kids running around, invited them along on trips to McDonald's with himself and his grandkids, and would have them laughing as he sprayed water while they zipped by on bikes. He had a great sense of humor, and we will greatly miss chatting with him while out for walks or yard work. Know that your family is in our thoughts and prayers continually during this very difficult time. May God's peace be with you all.

One of my clearest, and earliest memories of my good friend Deano Leckrone was during baseball season in the mid 1960's. What is now known as Lee Gehring Field is the backdrop. It looked different back then. It seemed bigger. The baseball field is where all of Libby would unite every other weekend. The giant home plate bleachers were full. The first base line bleachers were overfull, and wherever there was a view through the fence, was a face to occupy it. Little kids would sneak up on top the dugout roofs until Lee Gehring himself, the Home Plate Umpire, would put the run on us. Those were the days.. Cars were parked up the viaduct, and all around the city pool. They lined the outfield fence, gambling their windshield wouldn't be the victim of a home run ball. 2nd Street was packed, clear down past what was then Gompf Funeral Home. Every radio in town was tuned to KLCB. The baseball field was like the coliseum a little kid playing Little League Baseball. It was awesome. Awsome! I remember the smell. A lot of cigars. At the center of it all was a baseball team trained to win. The Loggers had a home run hitting machine named Dean Leckrone. Deano reigned King. When Deano walked through the gates of the playing field and out among the crowd, we would STFU, and stand attention. Those were the only moments we weren't raising hell somewhere around that ball park. He'd be right next to us. Sometimes he'd say something to us. A few times he said something to me. If Deano spoke to you, you were cool. I remember clearly the way his cleats would kick up gravel behind him as he walked to and from the ball parks only water fountain. I remember that so vividly. The water fountain was always crowded. The ball park was "stuffed" with Logger fans. When Deano came through the gate, the crowd so gladly moved aside to make room for him. I remember him signing autographs. His Libby Logger Baseball uniform, his enormous physical stature, and his legend, was so commanding back then. At least it was to me and a whole bunch of kids my age. Many of them, many of you, know well to this day. They all remember. Every time I go golfing with these kids I grew up with, we have a Deano discussion. We talk about the water fountain. We talk about the rock star we were rubbing elbows with, way back during those innocent summers. We've been doing it for years. Nothing is going to change. You couldn't ask for a better friend than Dean Leckrone. All my life I was around Dean Leckrone. Never once, ever, did I ever have a less than pleasant moment with him. Like so many of you, I was lucky enough to create memories with Deano throughout this journey. Deano was a legend as a youngster, as he will he be always. I remember back then, us little kids would have done anything to be the Bat Boy for the Logger Baseball Team. I think you had to be at least 12 yrars old. Being in the dugout with Dean Leckrone...are you kidding? We were all to little...to young. We're all grown up now though,...at least that what we tell ourselves. I will never forget. Deano's legend will live on. It's not goodbye my good friend, it's see you later.
