Clayton Lloyd Rockwell

November 12, 1962 ~ October 7, 2021 (age 58)

Obituary

On October 7th, 2021, Pastor Clayton Lloyd Rockwell went home to be with His Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He spent his last hours recreating on the Yaak River, and it was the river that became his entry into eternity.

Clayton L Rockwell was born on November 12, 1962, to William W. Rockwell and Judith (Smith) Rockwell in Flagstaff, AZ.  He joined his older sister Esther Elaine, and the family spent the next years moving to various forest service stations in Wyoming, Idaho and eventually ending up in Montana.  Clayton believed in Jesus Christ at the early age of nine, and from then on always had a heart for ministry and sharing the gospel. Clayton attended high school in Salmon, ID and graduated from Noxon High in Noxon, MT in 1981. After backpacking through Europe for 3 months, Clayton headed north to Alaska where he worked in a logging camp, and then spent one year in Glennallen attending Alaska Bible College.  While in Alaska, he also enjoyed his passions for trapping, hunting and fishing, and sharing the Gospel with the Native people in isolated villages across Alaska.  Following his last semester in college he headed to Dutch Harbor to jump on board the Andrew McGee, a crab harvesting boat.  On a summer visit back to Montana, he met and fell in love with Pamela Duczek.  They were married on June 4, 1983.

They spent the summer living in the mountains of western MT in the Big Hole Valley.  That winter they moved to Hot Springs, MT where they operated a gas station and where their son, Lael William Rockwell, was born.  Soon after, they moved to Troy, MT where Clayton worked at the ASARCO mine as an underground truck driver for two years.  While in Troy their second child, a daughter, was born.  Caia Michelle Rockwell completed their little family. In 1987 the family spent time in Lima, MT running an outfitting company, post and pole plant, and starting a log home business.

The family relocated to Toston, MT finally planting their roots. Over the next 24 years, Clayton and Pam raised their kids, built their log home company, and founded Crow Creek Valley Bible Church where Clayton pastored for over 15 years. Due to health issues, Clayton took a 2 year sabbatical in which Pam and Clayton travelled in a motorhome to Arizona, Nevada and California, giving them the opportunity to preach and evangelize. In 2014, Clayton and Pam came home to Toston with the desire to continue in ministry work. Preaching and teaching were in Clayton’s blood and heart and he started to feel the calling again back into full-time pastoral ministry. Within 2 years, they were packed and ready to head north again, back to the Troy area, landing in the Yaak!

For the past 6 years, Clayton enjoyed pastoring the Yaak Community Church and serving the community in various ways. Clayton served as a volunteer firefighter and chaplain to the upper Yaak volunteer fire department. Clayton also served on the Boyd Hill Cemetery board. He enjoyed spending time recreating God’s creation, but his greatest passion was sharing the love of Jesus with everyone he met.

Clayton Rockwell was preceded in death by his parents, William and Judith Rockwell.  He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Pamela Duczek Rockwell; son Lael (Alexa) Rockwell; daughter Caia (Seth) Salusso; 7 grandchildren; sister Esther (Mike) England; parents Roger and Jackie Duczek; and numerous other family members and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Yaak Community Church at 27643 Yaak River Road, Yaak, MT at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 16, 2021.  A graveside service will be following at the Boyd Hill Cemetery in the Yaak.  A fellowship meal will follow afterwards at the Yaak Community Church.
