John E. Morgan, 95, resident of Eureka, passed away at Kalispell Regional Medical Center on Jan. 26, 2018, at the age of 95. He was born July 21, 1922, in Harlowton to John H. and Barbara K. Morgan. The family moved to Eureka when John was 4 years old.
John graduated from Lincoln County High School in 1940. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in September 1940. His World War II service was in North Africa and the South Pacific, where he was awarded a Purple Heart.
While stationed in Dayton, Ohio, he met Betty Green, and they were married on June 2, 1944, in Greenville, S.C. They moved back to Eureka in 1945 after he was discharged.
John began his career working in the woods, logging and as a road builder, building logging roads. He enjoyed spending time with family, hunting, fishing, collecting and digging old bottles and refinishing antique furniture.
He was predeceased by his parents John and Barbara Morgan, wife Betty, grandson Ryan, sister Doris, brothers Ronald and Donald.
He will be sadly missed by his four children: Barbara (Dennis) Foster; Theresa (Pat) Shea; John (Kay) Morgan; Michael Morgan; his grandchildren Holli Gembala, Christina Sutherland, George Shea, Kelly Robinson, Renee Smith, Stephanie Joseph, Meaghan Shea-Grieve; and his 14 great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held June 2, 2018, at Tobacco Valley Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the VFW of Eureka or a donation of your choice.
