Jay F. Olsen, 81, of Troy, died Tuesday March 20, at Cabinet Peaks Medical Center in Libby of vascular and lung disease. He was born at Everett, Washington April 16, 1936 moved east to the Clinton, Montana area. He attended the University of Montana and had been a member of the Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity.
He became employed by the United States Postal Service as postmaster at Clinton and in the same position at Browning and later, in 1977, at Troy where he retired and remained until the time of his death. Jay was active in the community with Little League and Boy Scouts and had been a member of Troy Volunteer Fire Department. Jay was also involved with Habitat for Humanity in Billings MT as well as the Troy Volunteer Fire Department. He was always doing and could build anything out of anything. He will be missed by his family but we know he is in a better place.
Preceding him in death were his parents Jens and Charlotte Olsen; brother Ivan and sister Yvonne; a son Patrick Olsen and wives Joan Olsen and Darlene Obermayer.
Surviving him are his daughter Dorothy Olsen and son Harold Olsen, both of Clinton; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday (3/24) at 1:00 p.m. at the Troy Church of God with interment following at Troy Cemetery. Visitation and viewing will be Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to service time.
