James P. (Jim) Cosgriff, 78, of Libby, died Thursday (Aug. 8) at Kalispell Regional Medical Center. He was born at Grey Cliff, Montana to Martin Cosgriff and Lillian Eklund Cosgriff. He was raised and educated at Big Timber, Montana where he graduated from Sweetgrass County High School. He entered the U.S Army in 1960. He returned to Big Timber and married Sherry Close; they were later divorced.
Jim came to Libby in 1965 where he had been a longtime employee of the J. Neils Lumber Company and subsequently St. Regis and Champion International. In the 1970’s, he purchased property on Sheldon Flats and built a home there. He married Nancy Culver Obermayer on September 26, 1991. He had been a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Preceding him in death was an infant son, Martin James Cosgriff; his brothers, Gerald, John, Bill and Douglas and sister Mary. Surviving him are his wife Nancy; daughter Trish (Dan) Bundrock; son James Cosgriff; step-daughter Monica Cratty; numerous nieces and nephews including Tina Brown; 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Graveside services with military honors will be Friday (Aug. 16) at 2:00 p.m. at the City of Libby Cemetery. Friends may call at the Schnackenberg Funeral Home from 1-7 pm Thursday. Condolences and memories may be shared online by visiting www.schnackenbergfh.com.
