Valorie Sweet Obituary

Valorie J. Sweet

The world became a little brighter on November 28, 1949, when Valorie was born in the old hospital across from the ballpark to Charles Eugene Fletcher and Geraldine Cottrell Fletcher.  On March 24, 2024, heaven gained an angel as Valorie gained her wings surrounded by a loving family after a 23-year battle with respiratory disease.

Valorie was the loving wife of Walter for 58 years.  The first 48 years she cared for him and the family, while Walt cared for her much of the last 10 years.  They were a strong force and faced many obstacles together, but still had strong love in the end.

She had a loving heart and was a caregiver to many.  As the second oldest of eleven, Valorie helped raise her siblings.  She then raised her kids, neighborhood kids, foreign exchange students and grandkids.  She was also instrumental in caring for many family members prior to their passing.

Valorie loved kids and was always found on the bleachers at her kids and grandkids sporting events.  Her grandchildren were the apple of her eye.

Valorie’s hobbies included fishing, hunting, and camping with Walt and the family.  She was known to go hunting in her station wagon and would come home with a deer in the back end.  She was always proud of her yard and garden.  She raised chickens and a milk cow for many years.

She was mostly at home in the kitchen cooking and baking.  If you came through the doors, you were always offered coffee and something to eat.  Valorie was loved by all who knew her and never had an enemy.  She always had a smile on her face, even in the worst of circumstances.

Valorie was preceded in death by her parents Gene and Jerry Fletcher, brother Roy Fletcher, and in-laws Norman and Francine Moen.  Survivors include Walt Sweet of Libby, Eduardo Beltran of Madrid, Spain, Anders Aunbu of Oslo, Norway, Frank Sweet (Susan) of Airway Heights, WA, Charlie Sweet (Lisa) of Price, UT, Connie Sweet (Brian Schull) of Libby and Norma Sweet of Libby.  She leaves behind 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by nine siblings, Jerome Fletcher (Lottie), Letty Overby (Darrell), Steele Fletcher (Leslie), Molly Boggs, Betsy Arnold (Neal), Mary Beth Stroklund (Larry), Rene Fletcher, Jimmie Fletcher (Shelly) and Linda Leazenby (Wes).  She also has numerous nieces and nephews who all loved her with their whole hearts.

The family of Valorie Sweet would like to thank Logan Health Hospice, Riki Thompson NP, Dr. Timothy Obermiller and Ann Ryggs for their years of compassionate care, friendship and dedication to Mom’s care and well-being.
