John Sanders Obituary

John (Jack) Sanders, 87, died at home March 11, 2024, in Eureka Montana.

He was born February 8, 1937, along with his twin sister Jean in Omaha, Nebraska, son of Kermit and Ruth Sanders.

Jack attended grade school and high school in Sharon Springs, KS, where the family owned a dry goods store and were active members of the local community. Jack played sports in high school and loved music, which he pursued at Fort Hayes State University. He graduated from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor of Science in Music Education and specialized in playing the trumpet. He played trumpet in numerous dance bands through the years.

While at Fort Hayes Jack met and married Rosanne Wasinger, his wife of 65 years. Together they had three children, Cynthia, Steven, and Christine.

Jack began his career as a high school band director and held positions at schools in Scandia, Bird City and Ness City Kansas. The family eventually moved to Eureka, Montana where he taught high school music directing the band, marching band, and stage band. He also staged musicals that were enjoyed by students and townspeople.

Jack had a great love of the outdoors. He loved fishing with his dad Kermit, brother Don and brother-in-law Ralph Stone. They enjoyed many fishing trips in Montana, Idaho, and Colorado. One of his favorite fly-fishing spots was near Varney Bridge on the Madison River during the Salmon Fly hatch. Hunting and camping were also at the top of his list of favorite things to do.

Anyone who knew Jack also knew of his hobby of buying vehicles, number 65 was the last one.

Jack lived a joyful life with his wife Rosanne, family, and friends including numerous dogs in this beautiful corner of northwest Montana that he called home. He will be greatly missed!

Jack is survived by his loving wife Rosanne, daughter Cynthia Bradley (Wayne), son Steven Sanders (Laura), and daughter Christine Stevens (Larry), 9 Grandchildren, 10 Great Grandchildren, sister Jean Stone and brother Don Sanders (Susan).

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.  Arrangements are under the care of Schnackenberg Funeral Home of Libby, MT.  Online condolences and memories may be shared by visiting www.schnackenbergfh.com.
