My sincere condolences to Sue and the whole Utter family. I have only known Terry for ten years but I know how much of an inspiration he was to so many people. I loved going out to Eureka from my home in Tennessee every year to help Terry with his cows and other ranch chores. I will definitely miss my time time with him. What a testimony it was to him by seeing the number of people that attended his funeral service. Amazing. He was so well liked. What a cowboy he was.
Happy trails my friend!!

2008 five of my girlfriends and I came to Fortine, Montana from Kalamazoo, Michigan, to experience a dude ranch called Laughing Water Ranch. We were so excited to do a real cattle drive.
So this is where we met a real cowboy and cattle rancher – Terry Utter
Terry found out that I have cancer and wanted to know if I would be alright. He was so kind and sincere about my well-being. He said that I was a natural with riding and herding cattle.
He said, if you come back to Montana, you would have a place to ride horses and help with cattle drives.
So I did come back to Montana, and Laughing Water Ranch hired me, and I rode horses and I helped with the cattle drives.
After 6 weeks living in Chicago, going to Northwestern Memorial for cancer treatments, my cancer went away.
My doctors were amazed, since I was on the border-line of surviving. They gave a lot of the credit to Terry’s vision; ride horses and herd cattle in Montana. They said, every time you talked about Montana, your eyes would light up, so don’t stop riding cowgirl.
So thank-you, thank-you Terry Utter for you kindness, encouragement, and for my life as a real cowgirl here in Montana! You will be deeply missed!

So sorry for your loss. Terry was an inspiration to many. Especially an inspiration to me in the field of education. His kindness, sincerity, and genuine compassion for others was evident in the impact he made on the lives of his students. Traits I have carried into my own 23 years of teaching. I will be always be thankful for educators like Terry and proud to have called him family.

Sue and family: we are so sorry for your loss. This year we lost our nephew Matt to cancer, age 32. He left a legacy, LiveMoore. I think Terry, only 69, would agree with Matt's message: Live life to the fullest TODAY, tomorrow is not guaranteed. May God give you the strength to find peace in your many memories of your husband, your dad, your g'pa.

There are no words that can express my sadness for the entire Utter family. Mr. Utter was an amazing teacher and role model to all who were blessed to spend several years @ LCHS with him. He always had a smile on his face, paid attention to everything and everyone. A joke here and there to make us giggle. Never allowed us kids to be mad or sad. His approach to guide all our different personalities, was spectacular. He will be missed by all.

Bob and I had a great visit with a Terry while he was rounding up his cattle on the Pinkham Road a couple weeks ago. He always acknowledged us with a smile and warm greeting. It was a pleasure knowing him, and he was a fine example of mankind. We are truly sorry for his early passing.

I'm deeply saddened by his loss to family and friends. We never know the 'why' but we should remember that Terry's work was done. Even his passing will be a lesson. Terry was one of my favorite teachers, always greeted us with a smile, joked and teased to ease the tension and always fair.
He was a great man, and great men are always remembered....

I am deeply saddened to hear of Terry's passing. I truly enjoyed knowing Terry. We enjoyed many times together as our boys (Trevor & Joe) were teammates at LCHS. He truly loved Montana and especially the Tobacco Valley. I very much enjoyed our many conversations, card games, etc. He was a friend for which I will treasure many fond memories. My heartfelt condolences to Sue and the Utter family. May God strengthen you during this very difficult time!

To Sue and family,
I was so sorry to hear about Terry. God needed him in heaven to take care of his herd. I know we can't understand now why he would be taken at such a young age, but God will know the answer that question. May God watch over the family.
